The Elevator yard requires 217,800 sq. ft to operate. The elevator must be placed in an area where
it is around a railway on both sides as well as near a large highway for
semi-trucks coming in. Circle an area
that the Elevator be built in the picture below so that no houses are disturbed
(represented with red dots) and the above requirements are met. Then re draw that area and write down all of the dimensions of the
area that you are planning on using.

900 bushels , one load of corn in a dump truck is 500 bushels. Not all of the farmers in the area have a semi-truck,
and not all have a dump-truck. How many
loads would fill the pile? There should
be both semi-trucks and dump trucks in your answer.

I really liked your pictures and believed that your higher level tasks correlated well with them. For you first task, there seems to be multiple ways to get to the answer and it takes time to think about how you want to solve it. You don't directly give away a formula or a specific way to do it, so I would consider your first task to be higher level.
ReplyDeleteFor your second task, I also though it was a higher level task because different combinations could be put together to get an answer. There is no specific form of math that you give or certain path that needs to be done in order to come to a conclusion.
I agree with Hannah that these are both higher level tasks (doing math). I am wondering what grade level your task with the houses on the grid would be designed for. This seems to be a confusing problem (although definitely involves higher level thinking). I agree that your first task is a bit more open ended because there are multiple ways to solve the problem and you do not give an instruction of any way to solve it.
